AMRL

THELEN has received Certification of Accreditations from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) for Soil, Portland Cement Concrete, Portland Cement Concrete Aggregate and Hot Mix Asphalt Aggregates. In order to hold these accreditations, THELEN must successfully meet requirements by AASHTO. THELEN’s laboratories are inspected by the Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory (CCRL) and the AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory (AMRL) during each tour inspection. The purpose of such inspections is to confirm that the duties, responsibilities and minimum technical requirements of testing laboratory personnel and the minimum technical requirements for laboratory equipment utilized in testing soil, concrete, concrete aggregate and asphalt aggregate comply with ASTM C-1077, “Laboratories Testing Concrete and Concrete Aggregates for use in Construction and Criteria for Laboratory Evaluation”; ASTM D-3740, “Minimum Requirements for Agencies Engaged in Testing and/or Inspection of Soil and Rock Used in Engineering Design and Construction”; and AASHTO R-18, “Establishing and Implementing a Quality System for Construction Material Testing Laboratories”.

THELENís Professional Engineering Staff consists of Registered Professional Engineers and Registered Professional Geologists, the majority of whom have completed or are in the process of obtaining Masters Degrees. THELEN's Engineering Personnel attend courses, seminars and workshops to maintain and stay abreast of continuing engineering innovations. All technical reports are reviewed in-house by Senior Staff.

THELEN's Testing Personnel are certified by various associations, such as the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the American Asphalt Institute (AAI), the National Institute of Certified Engineering Technicians (NICET), the Ohio and Kentucky Ready Mixed Concrete Associations (ORMCA and KRMCA) and the American Welding Society (AWS). Quality control refresher classes and testing is provided for all of THELEN's Testing Personnel. THELEN's laboratory and field equipment is regularly maintained and calibrated in accordance with applicable standards such as American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) and the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO). Our nuclear density equipment is regulated by the State of Ohio and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. THELEN Testing Personnel are provided with quality control guidelines and workbooks. THELEN has also maintained peer review test results with other testing laboratories to assure quality control that meets or exceeds the standard of the industry.
